BUFFALO, N.Y. - Quebec's Mike Ricci and Buffalo's Dave Andreychuk scored the game's only goals as the Nordiques and Sabres skated to a tie. The tie extended Buffalo's winless streak to six games, during which the Sabres have gone 0-4-2. The Nordiques have only lost one game in their last nine (5-1-3). Two uninspired periods of hockey produced a 1-1 tie going into the final period, which was equally uninspired. Buffalo opened the scoring with the first period's only goal at 6:42 while the Nordiques' Curtis Leschyshyn was in the penalty box for roughing. Quebec goaltender Ron Hextall couldn't control the rebound of Dale Hawerchuk's clearing shot from the point and the rebound squirted out to Andreychuk, who shoveled it in from just outside the crease. The Sabres' Keith Carney was serving a holding penalty when the Nordique power play tied the game at 15:39 of the second period. Steve Duchesne's wrist shot from the point was expertly deflected past Buffalo goalie Daren Puppa by Ricci, who was standing off to the side of the net. Puppa replaced Buffalo's starting goalie, Dominik Hasek, when Hasek left the game with a groin injury after the first period. The Nordiques had the better of play in the third period, hitting the post twice. This article is copyright 1992 The Washington Times.
