Silly as in politics. And you know, Eye've learned a thing or two the past few weeks that could help in the prognosticating business. (Particularly if your record is 11-13.) The deal is to obfuscate. When in doubt, mumble. When nailed to the wall by your record, divert attention. OK, sports buffs, try this diversion on for size: Fan No. 1: "Man, how about the Eye's Redskins picks." Fan No. 2: "Right, Roger, but what about that stinky Packers-Bears pick . . . " Fan No. 1, cutting in: "Nevermind about that, Walter, did ya notice the point spread on the Vikes-Redskins was 2 1/2, and Eye took the Minnesotas? And what was the score, 15-13. Man, that Eye is a wonder." Fan No. 2: "Yeah, but . . . " Fan No. 1, cutting in: "Forget the buts, you can set your burgundy-and-gold Hogs wall clock by the Eye. Remember two weeks ago, that Redskins-Eagles pick? Clairvoyant, he is." Fan No. 2: "Jeepers, Roger, they guy's under .500 for the season and . . . " Fan No. 1, cutting in: "Golly, Wally, gotta go." See, Week 9 diversion successful. GIANTS (+10 1/2) AT REDSKINS Eye don't think there's any way the Jints will come in here and beat the Redskins. Not no way, not no how. Now, the question is, can they keep the Gibber & Co. from covering the 10 1/2 points? Right here, it says they can't. Eye see a close opening seven minutes. Shoot, maybe the Jints will lurch in front with a field goal. Then Washington will take control. And once it does, Eye think the New Yawkers will be looking to get outta Dodge. This one should be over by halftime . . . Redskins 31, Giants 10. EAGLES (+3 1/2) AT COWBOYS Only Buddy Ryan could figure out a way to hornswoggle Jimmy Johnson and the Cowboys out of this one. Dallas seems to be building momentum, its younger players gaining confidence - especially on defense, where the Cowboys now rank second in the NFC behind Philly. You got to believe they'll finally figure out a way to keep the lid on Randall Cunningham. Philly had its way with Dallas in the first meeting a few weeks ago, but that 31-7 victory was very close for 2 1/2 quarters. They say what goes around comes around . . . Cowboys 24, Eagles 9. BUCS (+11) AT SAINTS Who's startin' at quarterback for the Bukkos? Eye guess Vinny's doin' pine time again - golly, what a bust he has been. Still, Eye don't know about the Saints trying to cover 11 points. They've topped 13 points only twice in seven games. We're not talking a Dan Fouts/Chargers offense here.
