With the victory, the Hoyas (3-5) won the Steve Dean Memorial Trophy. The game, played before about 5,000 fans, was the 16th held in honor of Steve Dean, a 1971 graduate of Georgetown who served as manager for many Hoya teams and later was sports information director for Catholic before his death in 1976 from cerebral palsy. Georgetown leads the series 9-7. Catholic (4-5) struck first when senior fullback Derek Savoy ran for an 80-yard touchdown in the first quarter to take a 6-0 lead. Georgetown came back on its next possession with a 14-play, 86-yard drive that culminated with a four-yard touchdown run by Paul Uppole. CU's T.J. Robles kicked a 42-yard field goal with 2:43 remaining in the first quarter as the Cardinals recaptured the lead 9-7. Junior fullback Robert Sgarlata helped put the Hoyas back on top when he scampered in from two yards with 12:16 left in the second quarter. Catholic then went ahead on Kyle Farnham's 13-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Ed Sullivan. But Georgetown came back with a 29-yard strike from sophomore quarterback Aley Demarest to freshman wideout Dorian Bell with 1:29 left in the half, to make the score 19-16. Demarest returned to the Hoyas' lineup after missing several games with an ankle injury. This article is copyright 1992 The Washington Times.
