The Canadiens outshot the Rangers 37-34 to stretch their unbeaten string to seven games. Stephan Lebeau, Kevin Haller, Brian Bellows and Mario Roberge scored for Montreal (7-3-2), which moved a point ahead of the Boston Bruins for first place in the Adams Division. Mike Gartner, who last week passed Montreal Hall-of-Famer Maurice (Rocket) Richard for ninth place on the all-time scoring list, scored his ninth and 10th goals of the season for New York to give him 548 in his 14-year career. Gartner needs eight more to tie former Bruins great John Bucyk for eighth place on the all-time list. This article is copyright 1992 The Washington Times.
