Dye met with his players Monday, the same day he acknowledged in an interview that Auburn had violated NCAA rules and said he had no plans to resign. Quarterback Stan White said Dye "just informed us that we will be receiving a letter some time this week or next week, he's not sure when. We're not worried about that at all. That's something we can't do anything about." For 13 months, the NCAA has been investigating allegations by former player Eric Ramsey, who secretly recorded conversations in which he talked with Auburn coaches and a booster about receiving payments and gifts in violation of NCAA rules. THIS ISN'T CANADA CHICAGO - Northwestern coach Gary Barnett says two Big Ten coaches have warned him that Michigan cheats by using a 12-man huddle. Barnett said Tuesday that the coaches had called him and told him that in games with them, Michigan had 12 men on the field before the snap. The 12th man left the field before the snap but stayed long enough to freeze defenders, Barnett said the coaches told him. He would not identify the coaches. "Michigan doesn't play fair," Barnett said. "Michigan takes advantage of the rules when they substitute. All defensive coaches are getting caught by it." The undefeated, No. 4 Wolverines play Northwestern in Evanston on Saturday. LOMBARDI FINALISTS NAMED HOUSTON - Florida State linebacker Marvin Jones, Washington offensive tackle Lincoln Kennedy, Alabama defensive end Eric Curry, and West Virginia center Mike Compton have been selected as finalists for the Lombardi Award as the nation's top college lineman. The announcement was made by the Rotary Club of Houston, which sponsors the award. The winner will be announced Dec. 3. Curry, Compton and Kennedy are seniors. Jones is a junior. TENNESSEE BOOTS RIVERS KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Senior guard Steve Rivers was kicked off the Tennessee basketball team Tuesday for an unspecified violation of team rules. Rivers, a 6-foot-5 native of Charlotte, N.C., was dismissed by coach Wade Houston. Rivers had been in trouble with Houston before. He was suspended for the first seven games of last season along with center Carlus Groves, also for an unspecified violation of team rules. Houston declined to say what prompted the dismissal. He said it was something he'd just learned. Rivers practiced Sunday but was gone by Tuesday. ALL-ACC TEAM NAMED North Carolina State defender Scott Schweitzer was named ACC soccer player of the year, and Virginia led the league with five selections on the 12-member all-ACC team. Leading Virginia's contingent on the first-team all-ACC squad was senior forward Ben Crawley, the league's top scorer this season with 41 points. He was joined by midfielders Erik Imler (Bowie High School) and Claudio Reyna and defenders Clint Peay and Brian Bates. Duke had two players on the team, senior forward Chris Yankee and sophomore midfielder Jason Kreis. Rounding out the first team were Maryland goalkeeper Carmine Isacco, Clemson defender Andy Pujats, Wake Forest forward Ralmo deVries and North Carolina sophomore defender Gregg Berhalter. N.C. State freshman midfielder Blas Cardoza was named rookie of the year and Wolfpack coach George Tarantini was chosen coach of the year.
