BUFFALO, N.Y. - Dave Andreychuk scored four goals and Dale Hawerchuk notched his 700th NHL assist as Buffalo beat Hartford. The Sabres scored four times in the second period to break a 2-2 tie. Alexander Mogilny led off the barrage with a breakaway goal just 21 seconds into the period. Andreychuk followed at 16:12 when he knocked a rebound past Whalers goalie Sean Burke, with Hawerchuk picking up his 700th assist on the play. Sabres defenseman Richard Smehlik gave Buffalo a 5-2 lead when he blasted a 25-foot slapshot past Burke, and Andreychuk netted his third of the game on a power play with 53 seconds left in the middle period to make it 6-2. Andreychuk got his fourth goal on a power play at 4:10 of the final period, powering a shot from the slot past Frank Pietrangelo, who had replaced Burke in the Whalers' goal at the start of the period.
