Freshman QB Patrick Sapp completed 13 of 23 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns against North Carolina. . . . Clemson has allowed only two rushing touchdowns through the first nine games. . . . The Tigers are fourth in the nation in rushing (275.2 yards). * MARYLAND NOTES: The Terps, who were trounced 69-21 by Florida State last week, rank second in the nation in passing (321 yards). . . . QB John Kaleo continues to lead the nation in total offense (306.4 yards). . . . WR Marcus Badgett leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in receiving yards (105.6 yards) and receptions (6.6). He needs just 135 yards to set an ACC yardage mark for a season. * OUTLOOK: Maryland will face a superb ball-control team in Clemson, which dispelled any doubts about its legitimacy by routing North Carolina last week. The Terps, meanwhile, will be trying to rebound from their lopsided loss to Florida State, which scored touchdowns on its first nine possessions. Following last week's results, this game looks like a mismatch. Clemson's defense ranks 18th in the nation, but it isn't as good as Florida State's. In his second season, DeNardo owns an 8-11 record; Navy's George Chaump is in his third year with the Midshipmen and owns a 7-23 mark. Overall, Chaump is 64-55-2 in 11 seasons. * VANDERBILT NOTES: The Commodores beat Kentucky 20-7 last week. . . . Vanderbilt ranks eighth in the nation in kickoff returns (24.1). . . . Vanderbilt is the type of team the Midshipmen can compete with, and if Navy gains any momentum, the Mids could make it two in a row. Howard's Steve Wilson is 21-21 in his fourth season. * MORGAN STATE NOTES: The Golden Bears rank fourth in Division 1-AA passing, averaging 296.8 yards. Junior QB Orlando Persell needs 119 yards to reach 1,000 for the season. Junior WR Jesse Humphrey has 48 catches for 881 yards and six TDs. * HOWARD NOTES: After not allowing a TD pass in 17 quarters, the Bison gave up two in last week's 28-14 loss at South Carolina State. QB Jay Walker needs seven TD passes to break the school's single-season mark (20) and 105 yards for the school record (2,106). * OUTLOOK: The Bison made too many mistakes last week, losing four fumbles and having their normally solid pass coverage break down. They must avoid the latter against Persell & Co. in what could be a high-scoring affair.
