Desiree Washington, 19, of Providence, R.I., is undergoing treatment for a sexually transmitted disease she contracted when she was raped by Tyson in July 1991 in Indianapolis, according to her attorney. He declined to say what disease his client has. Tyson, the former heavyweight boxing champion, was convicted of rape last February and was sentenced in March to six years in prison. He could be eligible for release from the Indiana Youth Center in three years. * Cincinnati Reds owner Marge Schott successfully fended off a $2.5 million lawsuit filed by a former employee who accused her of making racial slurs. But attorneys for former Reds controller Tim Sabo said they will take the case to a state appeals court. Sabo, who is white, said one of the reasons he was fired in August 1991 was that he opposed Schott's alleged racial and religious slurs and alleged discriminatory hiring practices. Fight promoter Dan Duva said he gave Bowe's manager, Rock Newman, another $2.9 million check after the Nevada State Athletic Commission held up the first one because of a dispute over payment of sanctioning fees to the three world boxing organizations. The $2.9 million was the basic purse paid Bowe, who was expected to earn up to $8 million once his share of the pay-per-view receipts were tallied. Washington athletic director Barbara Hedges ruled Hobert ineligible last week because he obtained $50,000 in loans from the father-in-law of a friend, a violation of NCAA rules regarding loans to student-athletes. The Huskies (9-1) will play Michigan in the 1993 Rose Bowl. * The NCAA put Tulsa's athletic programs on three years' probation for violations in track and field. The sanctions will keep all sports out of postseason play for the first year. The entire athletic program bears the brunt of the penalties because Tulsa would not have had the minimum seven varsity sports to qualify for Division I membership if the infractions had not occurred. The NCAA said Tulsa must forfeit its NCAA women's golf championship won in 1988 and all championships won in the 1987-1988 and 1988-1989 seasons.
