Pinckney, who started five of Boston's first seven games, played only seven minutes in Tuesday night's 101-97 loss at Washington. He is averaging 4.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-9 Webb skipped his 1992 college season after playing three years at Alabama. He spent the season in the U.S. Basketball League, then signed with Boston as a free agent. LAYUPS The Charlotte Hornets placed forward Johnny Newman on the injured list and signed unrestricted free-agent guard David Wingate. * Milwaukee's Alvin Robertson, who holds three NBA records for steals in his eight-year career, had seven Tuesday night in a 114-106 victory over Atlanta. Robertson added 20 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists for the Bucks. * Christian Laettner, Minnesota's No. 1 draft choice, sprained the middle finger of his right hand early in the third quarter Tuesday night against Chicago but returned and finished with 17 points. The Timberwolves lost 124-103. * Detroit opened a four-game Western trip without Dennis Rodman, who missed his second straight game with tendinitis in his right knee. Isiah Thomas went out with a bruised left leg in the third quarter. The Pistons lost to the Los Angeles Clippers 115-106 in overtime. * Dallas point guard Derek Harper, the subject of trade rumors, missed his first 10 shots and finished 1 of 14 from the floor in Tuesday night's 134-111 loss to Charlotte.
