Of last week's three sterling picks, Eye figured that Miami with points at home against an un-dominating Bills team was as close to the proverbial mortal lock as you could get. Darn Fish. The Dolphins' belly-up act Monday night smudged an otherwise glittering weekend for yours truly. Yep, the Redskins are making that pick an easy one, although the game certainly was higher scoring than Eye'd imagined. And the Saints-Niners tussle went about as expected. So 2-1 could have been 3-0. Couldas and wouldas don't count, so it's 16-17 for the year. Week 12: REDSKINS (+4) AT SAINTS Goodness gracious, this one could be a killer - or something approaching that. Our boys in burgundy and gold have more missing parts than a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle, which leads me to believe that Monday night in the Superdome will be less than super. See, Nawlins has these three linebackers and an Attitude, especially after losing last week at the wire to San Fran. Listen to Rickey Jackson, one of the chief headhunters: "We plan to take it out on the Redskins." Great. Body Bag Game II. Sadly, our guys are a hurtin' crew on D, too. Tim Johnson's gotta go out there with bad ribs, three or four guys have bad backs or bad necks - the casualty list goes on and on. Even Saints QB Bobby Hebert is tucking a napkin under his chin in expectation of a feast. OK, here's a bone to toss Rich "Da Coach" Gilgallon's way: One way or another the Redskins will at least score. Ah, yes, Chip Lohmiller loves playing indoors . . . Saints 24, Redskins 12. EAGLES (-3 1/2) AT GIANTS Hard to believe Philly could be so gummed up at this point, isn't it? A few weeks ago, you might have thought they'd win this one 99-3 or something like that. But the Eagles' defense appears to be wearing down, and the offense is in such chaos you can't depend on it to do much right. The Jints are little better off. Is that Ray Handley guy still the coach? Eye wouldn't touch this one, but they're both division chums with the Redskins. Smells like . . . Eagles 13, Giants 12. OILERS (+3 1/2) AT DOLPHINS My buddy Dick Heller keeps tellin' me the Shulas will be OK this week after that Monday night debacle. Eye'd like to think so, but the trend is the other way, the Dolphins having lost three of their past four after opening up 6-0. The Oilers have been a puzzlement all season. Now Warren Moon is out with an injury, and their fortunes hinge on the play of backup QB Cody Carlson. And they don't play particularly well away from the Astrodome. Whaddaya think? Eye think the Fish will snap back and win - but they won't cover. Carlson is a darn good backup . . . Dolphins 26, Oilers 24. This article is copyright 1992 The Washington Times.
