Marine Corps Contract Boosts Halifax's Profit<

Halifax Corp. of Alexandria reported that its profit in the quar-
ter ended Sept. 30 rose 18 percent compared with a year earlier,
while revenue more than doubled. The company attributed the
results to a large Marine Corps contract.

 Halifax, which provides the government with computer services
and building support services such as maintenance, said its pro-
fit in the quarter, the second of its fiscal year, was $220,000
(19 cents a share), up from $186,000 (16 cents) in the same
period last year.

 Revenue, though, shot up to $15.08 million from $7.23 million.

The company said that much of that money came from the Marine
Corps contract, which is subcontracted to other firms, reducing
Halifax's profit margin on the revenue.

 For the first six months, Halifax's profit was down 2 percent,
to $422,000 (36 cents) from $429,000 (36 cents) in the same
period last year.

 Revenue doubled in the first half, to $29.21 million from $14.58
million in the year-ago first half.
