"The storyline will kick off in January with a murder mystery," says Corday. The new daytime drama (starring Deirdre Hall) will be a plot-driven, action-packed drama featuring three core families. SOAP STARS IN PRIME-TIME MOVIE: NBC is making a movie for prime time with a cast of daytime stars. "Woman on the Ledge" revolves around three childhood friends played by Deidre Hall of "Days of Our Lives," Leslie Charleson of "General Hospital" and Colleen Zenk Pinter of "As the World Turns." It is scheduled to air in December. CBS tried a similar move in 1988. "Shared Richard" had a rating of just 12.3. HELP-WANTED ADS UP SLIGHTLY: Slightly more help-wanted advertisements appeared in U.S. newspapers in May than April despite rising levels of unemployment, a business research group said Thursday. The Conference Board's help-wanted index rose to 91 in May. That is one point above April's 90 but three points below the year-ago reading of 94. PARAMOUNT OVERESTIMATES NUMBERS: Projections from Paramount last week about "The Arsenio Hall Show's" demographics proved to be a bit optimistic. Jay Leno's "Tonight Show" still has a slight edge over Hall among viewers ages 18-49, but they are tied among the 18-34 group. Paramount had said that Arsenio garnered a 2.8 in viewers 18-49 and 3.0 in 13-34, vs. Leno's 2.9 for 18-49 and 2.6 in 18-34. SULLIVAN TO BE ON NEW SHOW: Kathleen Sullivan, former host of ABC's "Health Show," will work on "Life Choices." It will premier in syndication on local stations Sept. 19. "It is not just a fitness or exercise program," says "Choices" host Erie Chapman. "It is about making decisions in people's lives." Chapman is the CEO of the U.S. Health Corp., which produces the program. BUSH GIVES CBS A BOOST: "CBS This Morning's" interview with President Bush last Wednesday gave the show a 30% boost in viewership in the overnight ratings, but the program still trailed NBC's "Today" and ABC's "Good Morning America." For the second quarter, "Today" and "GMA" finished tied with a 3.9 rating:19 share. It was the first time "Today" has won or tied in a quarterly period since 1989. `JACK'S PLACE' WILL RETURN: "Jack's Place" star Hal Linden told Arsenio Hall last week that his ABC summer series with Finola Hughes would be back as a midseason show next season. The show will go back into production soon in Vancouver, Linden said. PRIME TICKET TO EXPAND: Prime Ticket Network will expand its programming lineup by two hours on weekends starting Saturday. It will provide sports shows from 7 a.m. to 4 a.m. PT. The network serves more than 4.3 million cable subscribers, primarily in southern California. FORD SPONSORS `WILD WEST': Ford's Lincoln Mercury division says it will sponsor a 10-hour miniseries called "The Wild West." The show is being produced by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution and is set to debut March 1993. Lincoln Mercury will buy 25% of the national ads for the show and will partially sponsor a program guide that will run in Time-Warner-owned magazines. HARDEE'S PUSHING FRISCO BURGER: New York's Ogilvy & Mather ad agency has launched an ad campaign for Hardee's Food Systems' new Frisco Burger. Hardee's has been test marketing the burger for several months, but has just started rolling out the product nationally. The ads use the company's tagline "Are you ready for some real food?" YOUNG & RUBICAM GAINS ACCOUNT: Ad agency Young & Rubicam of New York has won the Birds Eye and Budget Gourmet accounts from Kraft General Foods, ADWEEK reports. The magazine says billings could reach $35 million. The account had been held by Calet, Hirsch & Ferrell of New York, which was formed last month when Calet, Hirsch & Spector and Wergeles & Drazen merged. BEST WESTERN FIRES AGENCY: Best Western International has removed its $15 million North American account from Karsh & Hagan of Englewood, Colo., Advertising Age reports. The lodging chain is expected to look for one multinational agency to handle its worldwide advertising, estimated at $25 million. An account review is expected to take place later this month.
