Mars' two main shops are Backer Spielvogel Bates of New York and D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles of New York and St. Loius. KWGN GETS TWO WINS: Tribune Co.'s KWGN-TV in Denver has signed a five-year deal to broadcast Colorado Rockies Major League Baseball games when the team enters the National League next year. The TV station also said it has won a ruling in the U.S. Court of Appeals which will allow it to continue to air Chicago Bulls games. The court ruled that the NBA limit of 20 games per season was an illegal restraint of trade. STRIDE RITE CHANGES PATHS: Stride Rite Corp.'s Children's Group has stopped advertising on Saturday morning children's programming. The group will instead sponsor the Public Broadcasting Service Sunday morning show "Long Ago & Far Away," as well as related merchandising and a tie-in with the American Library Association. COLLEGE PAPER TO TARGET FROSH: A national college newspapers, called U., will publish two special issues targeted to incoming freshmen. The Welcome to U. edition and advertisers' product samples will be distributed next month to 750,000 college-bound high school seniors. The Back to U. edition will be published in August with a distribution of nearly 1.5 million copies. JACK DANIELS TRIES NEW PRODUCT: Brown-Forman Beverage Co., the makers of Jack Daniel's Tennessee whiskey, is introducing a new product, Jask Daniel's Country Cocktails. Lynchburg Lemonade, Tennessee Tea and Down Home Punch have been test marketed for a year and will be available in 44 states this month. They are supported by a $5 million ad campaign from Simmons, Durham & Associates of St. Louis. AT&T TO KEEP AD BUDGET ON HOLD: AT&T cut its U.S. ad budget by $115 million between 1990 and 1991 and has no plans to increase spending in 1992, AT&T director of ad services Bob Watson says in ADWEEK. AT&T has begun a national print campaign for its cellular phones. The campaign will cost roughly $400,000. NEW SPRING WATER TO SURFACE: Castle Springs, a new spring water line, is slated to come out in June. It will be available in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts. Print ads will break next month in newspapers and regional magazines. Ads and labels will invite people to visit Castle in the Clouds, a tourist attraction on the property where the water is bottled. TIMEX TRIES EXPENSIVE LINE: Timex Corp. is introducing its first watch line designed to be sold exclusively in fine department stores. The watches will retail for between $45 and $65. A print ad for the Essentials line, created in-house, breaks in May magazines. STYLISTS CHOICE DUE OUT: Proctor & Gamble Co. says it will introduce Vidal Sassoon Stylist Choice shampoos and conditioning rinses in July. Tatham:RCSG of Chicago will handle the TV campaign, to begin in July. Magazine advertisements are scheduled to run in August. MCCANN-ERICKSON GAINS ACCOUNTS: McCann-Erickson of New York says it has picked up three new accounts from Johnson & Johnson as part of an international realignment. Reach toothbrushes and Act fluoride rinse had been at Caldwell Davis Partners of New York. Johnson's Dental Floss had been at Lowe & Partners. COMMISSIONER CALLS ADS DECEPTIVE: New York City Commissioner of Consumer Affairs Mark Green has charged Clorox, Kellogg, Nabisco Foods and Van Den Bergh Foods with deceptive health-oriented ad claims. All four marketers say their ads are accurate. They have until May 14 to respond to the charges. ISIDORE & PAULSON ACQUIRED: Ad agency Warwick Baker & Fiore of New York has acquired Isidore & Paulson, an agency with $20 million in billings, Advertising Age says.
