Atlanta general manager John Schuerholz announced Thursday that Sanders decide to remain with the first-place Braves and make the Atlanta Falcons wait for him. Sanders will continue to earn his $600,000 1992 Braves salary on a pro-rated basis, about $6,000 a game. CONE TRADED TO BLUE JAYS: David Cone, the ace of the New York Mets pitching staff and the National League strikeout leader, was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays Thursday. The Blue Jays sent infielder Jeff Kent and a minor-leaguer to be named to the Mets for Cone, who will pitch Saturday at the SkyDome against the Milwaukee Brewers. Cone had a 13-7 record with the Mets so far this season. BECK LEADS NEC: Chip Beck fired 5-under-par 65 to take a two-shot lead over Fred Couples into Friday's second round of the $1.4 million NEC World Series at Firestone in Akron, Ohio. Beck had no bogeys, saving par with a 15-foot putt at No. 14 and a 25-yard chip within 2 feet at 15.
