OWNERS DECIDE VINCENT'S FATE: Power politics takes the field Thursday when major league baseball's owners gather to decide the fate of the game's embattled commissioner, Fay Vincent. The owners meet in Rosemont, Ill., for a session they hope will put one of the most belligerent periods behind. Most owners contacted Wednesday refused to predict the outcome. Even those looking to dump Vincent don't know the agenda. NHL RETURNS TO ESPN: The National Hockey League returns to ESPN in a big way with an opening-night telecast of Eric Lindros' debut for the Philadelphia Flyers against the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins. That Oct. 6 game will be the first of at least 25 regular-season games offered by ESPN as part of a five-year contract.
