Yount singled to right-center field in the seventh inning of the Brewers' 5-4 loss to the Cleveland Indians. Only Ty Cobb and Hank Aaron reached the 3,000 mark at an earlier age than Yount, who is 36. Yount is the 17th player to reach 3,000. SELIG HANDED BASEBALL REINS: Milwaukee Brewers President Allan "Bud" Selig, instrumental in the ouster of Commissioner Fay Vincent, essentially took over the duties of commissioner Wednesday when he was elected chairman of baseball's executive council. Selig will oversee baseball until a permanent replacement is found. Deputy Steve Greenberg will handle day-to-day duties at the New York central office.
