Reardon, combining with John Dopson for a six-hitter, pitched one inning to move past Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers on the all-time saves list. "Rollie Fingers was the best reliever ever," Reardon said. "He's always going to be the best, no matter what I do." VINCENT DELAYS ANNOUNCEMENT: Baseball Commissioner Fay Vincent Monday delayed indefinitely a planned announcement of George Steinbrenner's reinstatement to active management of the New York Yankees. "In the last few days, new information has come to light that requires a review by the commissioner's office," said a statement released by Vincent. He said the reinstatement has to be done properly. BULLS TO HOLD RALLY: The Chicago Bulls will try to restore order to the celebration of their NBA championship Tuesday with a rally in Grant Park. Rioting erupted Sunday night after the Bulls won their second straight title. In the violence, 1,016 arrests were made for burglary, theft and mob activities. There were 95 injuries, including two police officers and three civilians who were shot. COURIER, SELES NAMED TOP SEEDS: Jim Courier and Monica Seles were given the No. 1 seeds for Wimbledon Monday. The biggest surprise was that Pete Sampras, No. 3 in the world, was seeded No. 5. The move avoids having two-time champion No. 2 Stefan Edberg, three-time champ No. 4 Boris Becker and defending champion No. 3 Michael Stich in the same half of the draw.
