He was acquitted on battery and disorderly conduct charges in Milwaukee and was traded to the Phoenix Suns for Jeff Hornacek, Tim Perry and Andrew Lang. In exchange for Barkley, a six-time All-Star and one of the acknowledged superstars of the game, the Sixers acquired three of the Suns' starters. GLAVINE FIRST TO WIN 10: The Atlanta Braves beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 Wednesday, as Tom Glavine became the first 10-game winner in the majors. Glavine (10-3) threw a five-hitter as the Braves won their seventh straight game. VINCENT CANCELS MEETING: Calling Gene Michael's lawyer Robert Costello unacceptable, Commissioner Fay Vincent Wednesday canceled a meeting with the New York Yankees general manager. Vincent planned to question Michael about allegations that Yankees owner George Steinbrenner had contacted team employees while he was suspended from baseball. The session will be next week with a new lawyer. TEAMS BIDDING ON LINDROS: Marcel Aubut, owner of the Quebec Nordiques - who drafted Eric Lindros in 1991 - told The Detroit News Wednesday that Detroit, Philadelphia, Calgary, Toronto and New Jersey remain in the hunt for Lindros. Also, several NHL veterans will be available to the Tampa Bay Lightning and Ottawa Senators in Thursday's expansion draft, including Mike Ramsey and Michel Goulet. HOLYFIELD, HOLMES TIP SCALES: Evander Holyfield and Larry Holmes seem to have found comfortable fighting weights. Holyfield weighed in at 210 pounds Wednesday, heading into his heavyweight championship fight against challenger Holmes Friday night. Holyfield also weighed 210 pounds when he fought Bert Cooper on Nov. 23. Holmes weighed in at 233 pounds, the same as he did against Ray Mercer on Feb. 7. CONDITIONS FAVOR FALDO: Conditions for Thursday's start of the 92nd U.S. Open championship seem to favor England's Nick Faldo. LAFACE STRONG IN TRIALS: Karen LaFace has made a dramatic recovery from three months ago when she was recovering in a hospital from a bicycle accident. She is between favorites Julie Farrell-Ovenhouse, who leads with 542.88 points, and Wendy Lucero-Schayes, in third place (484.62). MCRAE WINS CYCLING RACE: Chann McRae won the U.S. national championship cycling road race Wednesday - 44 seconds ahead of Lance Armstrong at Hollidaysburg, Pa. The two riders, best friends since fifth grade, are a step closer to making the U.S. Olympic team. The rider with the best combined performance in the race and Friday's Olympic Trials race earns the automatic bid. Coaches will select two others. FERNANDEZ ADVANCES: Second-seeded Mary Joe Fernandez moved into the quarterfinals of the Eastbourne grass-court tournament with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Patricia Hy Wednesday in England. Lori McNeil beat third-seeded Conchita Martinez 6-0, 6-3. Also, second-seeded Brad Gilbert scored a 6-3, 6-2 win over Gary Muller in the second round of the Manchester grass-court tournament in England. SELES TO LIST SARASOTA: Yugoslav Monica Seles, who has been silent about her country's civil war, will list Sarasota, Fla., as her hometown when she begins play at Wimbledon. ARAZI TO BE RESTED: Arazi is to be given a two-month break after his second consecutive failure in a major Thoroughbred race. Arazi, trained in France by Francois Boutin, finished fifth in a field of eight in the St. James's Palace Stakes at the Royal Ascot races in London Tuesday.
