A likely TV component is several games on ABC this season. Those games would complement the return of NHL games to ABC-owned ESPN. ATTORNEYS COUNTER LEAGUE: In the ongoing NFL antitrust trial in Minneapolis, attorneys for the eight players suing the league countered testimony by a league economist Thursday on NFL owners' earnings with arguments that his figures did not include owners' salaries. The trial recessed until Aug. 31. PIRATES EARN SERIES SWEEP: Danny Jackson gave up five hits in seven innings and Lloyd McClendon homered as the Pirates completed a three-game sweep of the San Diego Padres with a 7-1 victory Wednesday. HOWE REPLY DUE SEPT. 9: Arbitrator George Nicolau on Thursday set Sept. 4 as the deadline for briefs in the grievance filed by Steve Howe and Sept. 9 as the deadline for reply briefs. Howe was given a lifetime suspension by Commissioner Fay Vincent on June 8 after agreeing to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of attempting to possess cocaine. USC'S RAVELING REPRIMANDED: Southern Cal coach George Raveling received a public reprimand Thursday from the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee because of comments he made about officiating after the Trojans lost to Georgia Tech in the NCAA tournament last March. "Under the circumstances, the reprimand was justified," said Raveling. "I made a serious mistake for which I'm sorry." KING SUES RUDDOCK: Don King filed a $35 million breach-of-contract suit against heavyweight Donovan "Razor" Ruddock, the promoter said Thursday. King, who has promoted Ruddock's last five fights, says his contract with the fighter is good for at least another two years.
