Game 3 is Tuesday night in Toronto. The Braves stole five bases, tormenting Toronto pitchers David Cone and Tom Henke and catcher Pat Borders, tying the World Series record, which has been accomplished five times. RICE MOVES INTO 100 CLUB: Three NFL superstars marched into the record books Sunday, but only San Francisco receiver Jerry Rice did it with flair. Rice, needing one touchdown to reach 100 for his career, had three in the 49ers' 56-17 rout of Atlanta. Rice's 80-yard catch from Steve Young made him the eighth NFL player to reach 100. He had a 40-yard TD catch in the second quarter and added a 26-yard TD later. CUNNINGHAM TOPS TARKENTON MARK: Philadelphia's Randall Cunningham broke Fran Tarkenton's record for career yards rushing by a quarterback - gaining 39 against Washington to give him 3,683. Houston's Warren Moon had 321 yards passing to give him 50,589 in his 15-year pro career (21,228 in the CFL; 29,361 in the NFL). Combining his statistics in the two leagues, Moon is the most prolific passer ever in pro football. ELWAY LEADS BRONCOS COMEBACK: Denver quarterback John Elway continued to make the miraculous seem mundane Sunday, leading the Broncos from behind in the final two minutes for a 27-21 victory against the Houston Oilers. Elway found Mark Jackson for 39 yards and Vance Johnson for 21 before fullback Reggie Rivers popped a 20-yard TD run. In other games: Washington 16, Philadelphia 12; Dallas 17, Kansas City 10. HARBAUGH, BEARS TACKLE BUCS: Jim Harbaugh passed for a career-high 304 yards to lead the Chicago Bears past Tampa Bay 31-14 Sunday. Grand Prix. While Andretti won the race - his last in IndyCar before hitting the Formula One circuit in 1993 - Rahal parlayed a third-place finish at Laguna Seca Raceway into his third PPG Cup title, beating Andretti by four points (196-192). Andretti started at the pole and led all 84 laps. COURCOL WINS VOLVO TITLE: Mississippi State senior Daniel Courcol Sunday became the first player in collegiate tennis to win the first two legs of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's grand slam. Courcol beat Florida's Mark Merklein 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) to win the Volvo Tennis:Collegiate Championships in Austin, Texas. He has also won the National Intercollegiate Clay Court title. MIAMI STAYS ON TOP: The Miami Hurricanes held on to the top spot of the USA TODAY:CNN college football poll after a 45-10 win over Texas Christian. Washington stayed one point behind the Hurricanes in the No. 2 spot, after a 24-3 win over Oregon. Rounding out the top 10 are: Michigan, Alabama, Texas A&M, Florida State, Nebraska, Georgia, Colorado, Notre Dame. SMITH WINS HISTORIC REMATCH: Wesley Tate passed for 131 yards and a touchdown as Johnson C. Smith (N.C.) defeated Livingstone (N.C.) 14-6 Saturday in a game that marked the 100th anniversary of black college football. Livingstone and Smith, then known as Biddle, met in 1892 in the first game between black colleges. Biddle won that first game 4-0. BLACKHAWKS SLIDE BY CANUCKS 3-1: Ed Belfour stopped 22 shots for his first victory of the season as the Chicago Blackhawks beat Vancouver 3-1, handing the Canucks their first loss. NAVRATILOVA CELEBRATES WITH WIN: Martina Navratilova celebrated her 36th birthday Sunday by winning the Porsche Grand Prix 7-6, 6-3 against Gabriela Sabatini and driving away with the $70,000 first prize and a pink Porsche. The win in Filderstadt, Germany, was Navratilova's 161st career victory. She has won the Porsche tournament four times. HUSTON WINS DISNEY CLASSIC: John Huston came from three strokes back with six holes remaining Sunday to win the Disney Classic in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Huston shot 10-under-par 62 in the final round, while Mark O'Meara, who had been in the lead, bogeyed twice between the 13th and 18th holes to finish second. Huston's 26-under 262 was just off the PGA record of 27-under established by Ben Hogan in 1945. OLYMPICS WANT GOLF: The Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games will announce this week it wants to include men's and women's golf - featuring pros - as a medal sport in 1996, The Washington Post reports Monday. The International Olympic Committee must still approve. It's uncertain if the competition, at Augusta (Ga.) National Golf Club, would use stroke or match play. BREEDERS' FIELDS OUT WEDNESDAY: The pre-entry fields for the seven Breeders' Cup Thoroughbred horse races will be announced Wednesday. The $10 million Breeders' Cup (NBC, 1:30-6 p.m. ET) will be Oct. 31 at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, Fla. Post positions will be determined Oct. 28. PRO SOCCER OPENS WITH TOURNEY: The National Professional Soccer League will have its annual preseason tournament Friday through Sunday at the Ohio Sports Center in Dayton. All 13 teams will participate in the six-game format, consisting of two 15-minute halves. NIKE, JORDAN HELP SCHOOLS: Nike and Michael Jordan Friday each presented to the Chicago city public schools checks for $100,000. A group of outstanding high school students were joined by Superintendent Ted Kimbrough in accepting the checks.
