After several moves Tuesday, the Chicago White Sox signed Jackson to a one-year minimum salary contract of $109,000, plus two option years. LEBLANC IMPRESSIVE IN DEBUT: U.S. Olympian Ray LeBlanc made the most of his NHL debut Tuesday, stopping 21 shots in the Chicago Blackhawks' 5-1 win over the San Jose Sharks. "He looked a little nervous handling the puck but was consistent stopping it," said Blackhawks general manager and coach Mike Keenan, who watched from the press box. LeBlanc has played in the minor leagues since 1985. Buser left the White Mountain, Alaska, checkpoint, 77 miles short of the finish line at Nome late Tuesday on a pace to break Susan Butcher's 1990 record of 11 days, 1 hour and 53 minutes. CAMACHO, CHAVEZ TO FIGHT: Promoter Don King Tuesday announced a July boxing matchup of unbeatens: Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Hector "Macho" Camacho. But the date and location of Chavez's World Boxing Council super lightweight (140 pounds) title defense were not announced. "We are still in the bidding process and we want the most money." JUDGE RULES FOR PLAYERS: Federal judge Royce Lamberth ruled Tuesday in Washington, D.C., the NFL illegally fixed salaries for developmental squad players in 1989 and said a trial must set damages.
