"We came out with a lot of intensity and contested every shot they took," said New York's Patrick Ewing. Xavier McDaniel led the Knicks with 24 points. Michael Jordan had 29 for the Bulls. The series moves back to Chicago Tuesday. CAVS BEAT CELTICS IN OT: The return of Larry Bird Sunday wasn't enough as the Boston Celtics were upset by Cleveland 114-112 in overtime. The Cavaliers evened the Eastern Conference semifinal series at 2-2 with Game 3 Wednesday at Richfield, Ohio. In the Western Conference, Seattle defeated Utah 104-98 to cut the Jazz's lead to 2-1. Ricky Pierce had 31 points. The series resumes Tuesday at Seattle. MCDOWELL GOES TO 7-0: Jack McDowell became the first pitcher in the majors to reach seven wins as the Chicago White Sox stopped the Baltimore Orioles 5-2 Sunday. McDowell (7-0) is one win from the best start by a White Sox starter. ALDAG WINS FOURTH STAGE: Germany's Rolf Aldag outsprinted countryman Peter Hilse to win the 143-mile fourth stage of cycling's Tour Du Pont Sunday at Hershey, Pa. Three-time Tour de France champion Greg LeMond, riding for the French team Z was 10th and is third overall. England's Dave Mann, riding for Coors Light, remains the race leader by .74 of a second over teammate Stephen Swart of New Zealand. ITALY WINS TIGHTEST RACE: Italy's Il Moro di Venezia won the closest America's Cup race ever, edging America 3 by three seconds in Race 2. The best-of-seven series, tied at 1-1, will resume Tuesday. "It was certainly an exciting race, but I don't enjoy losing," skipper Bill Koch said. America 3 co-skipper and primary helmsman Buddy Melges refused to take it so hard: "I enjoyed the hell out of losing." KITE TOPS $7M IN WINNINGS: Tom Kite became the first golfer on the PGA Tour to top the $7 million mark for career winnings, knocking in six consecutive birdies in a 7-under-par 65 to win the Atlanta Classic Sunday. Kite won $180,000 and has $7,104,454 for his career. No. 2 Tom Watson has $5,914,836. Kite ended a 16-under-par 272 with an eagle. Runner-up Jay Don Blake shot 68-275. SABATINI DOWNS SELES: Gabriela Sabatini of Argentina won her fourth consecutive Italian Open Sunday, defeating No. 1-ranked Monica Seles 7-5, 6-4 in the final. "I always play well here in Rome," Sabatini said after defeating Seles in the final for the second year in a row. No. 4 Sabatini won five games in a row after falling behind 5-2 in the first set. EDBERG, STICH IN FINAL: Sweden's Stefan Edberg and Germany's Michael Stich meet Monday in the rain-delayed final of the ATP German Open at Hamburg. Edberg defeated Carlos Costa of Spain 7-5, 7-6 (9-7) and Stich stopped countryman Boris Becker 6-1, 6-1. Also, MaliVai Washington defeated Claudio Mezzadri 6-3, 6-3 to win the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships at Charlotte, N.C. MCCOLGAN SETS RECORD: Scotland's Liz McColgan set a world best in the 8-kilometer (4.97-mile) run Sunday with a time of 24 minutes, 48 seconds in the Nike Women's Race at Washington, D.C. The USA's Lynn Jennings was second in 25:08.
