X TechInfo is a Motif/X11-based interface to TechInfo that includes provider capability and a number of other features. Warning: Release 4.0 is not easy to build and install. The Imakefiles are in a weird configuration; you will probably need to do a lot of editing. There are no instructions for what header files you need to edit yourself. However, it compiles and runs on several different BSD-like operating systems at MIT, so once you get the Imakefiles and header files straightened out, everything else should be fine. X TechInfo takes advantages of some TechInfo server features that aren't available for anonymous ftp as of March 1993. This will result in "Server didn't understand the request" errors when users try to use certain features. Try xtechinfo -server tiserve.mit.edu to see all the features in action. If you don't have the com_err library, you will also need to ftp it from athena-dist.mit.edu:/pub/tools/com_err.tar.Z Be sure to get and read the file mit-copyright.h. X TechInfo was compiled with Motif 1.1.4 and 1.1.5. It is not known what other versions of Motif will work. Allow 1.8 Meg for uncompressed source and 8 Meg for your build tree.
