NAME

S94SUNWmd.cvt - script generated by metacvt to perform a conversion

SYNOPSIS

S94SUNWmd.cvt [ -R ] [ -d ] [ -i ] [ -r ] [ -u ]

AVAILABILITY

This script is generated by the metacvt utility.

DESCRIPTION

S94SUNWmd.cvt is a script generated by the metacvt utility to perform all steps necessary for a smooth conversion from Online:DiskSuite 2.0.1 or 3.0 to Solstice DiskSuite 4.1.

The S94SUNWmd.cvt script will:

1) Detach any logging devices from trans metadevices;

2) Make a copy the script located in /etc/rc2.d (needed for post-reboot continuation);

3) Reboot (in case there were trans metadevices), or execute a copy of itself (no trans metadevices);

4) Replace /etc/vfstab with a temporary copy that contains no metadevices;

5) Replace the md.tab file with a copy that has tear-down and rebuild information for metadevices, hot spares, and replicas;

6) Undo the mirroring of root temporarily (if root is being mirrored);

7) Remove all existing replicas;

8) Create a temporary packaging administration file;

9) Remove all DiskSuite packages (using the administration file from the previous step);

10) Reboot the machine to ensure that in-core DiskSuite is removed;

11) Prompt you for addition of the new packages;

12) Validate the new packages;

13) Replace the md.tab file with the generated version;

14) Remove all DiskSuite /dev and /devices entries;

15) Force a reconfiguration reboot;

16) Merge any md.conf file changes;

17) Reboot for reconfiguration;

18) Create all replicas;

19) Create all metadevices;

20) Restore the original /etc/vfstab file;

21) Issue the metaroot command if root (/) was mounted on a metadevice;

22) Reboot to ensure that all mounts on metadevices take place correctly;

23) Start up all non-operating-system related submirror attaches;

24) Wait for complex (three-way mirror) attaches to complete;

25) Remove the copy of the script from /etc/rc2.d.

OPTIONS

-R
Enables restore mode, which puts back the following files: /etc/vfstab, /etc/opt/SUNWmd/md.tab, /etc/system, and the replicas.

-d
Enables debug.

-i
Enables operating system reinstall mode. This mode of operation has two phases. The first phase is completed before the operating system is reinstalled. It detaches any logging devices from trans metadevices, reboots (only if there were logging devices to detach), and either after the reboot or immediately instructs the user how to enable the second phase. The second phase is completed after the operating system has been reinstalled. It picks up with step 11 above and continues through step 25.

-r
Enables rebuild mode, which begins at step 11 and runs through step 25, restoring the configuration.

-u
Enables operating system upgrade mode. This mode of operation has two phases. The first phase is completed before the operating system is upgraded. It detaches any logging devices from trans metadevices, reboots (only if there were logging devices to detach), and either after the reboot or immediately picks up at step 4 above and runs until step 10, skipping step 9. After the reboot in step 10, it instructs the user how to enable the second phase. The second phase is completed after the operating system has been upgraded. It picks up with step 11 above and continues through step 25.
