I'd actually second this. I've found something similar with my setup
(iDX4-100, 8MB RAM, 2-1-1-1 cache, 0 DRAM read ws, 2 DRAM write ws,
Kernel 1.2.13+KSwap+Voxware 3.x/Kernel 1.3.43, XFree86 3.1.1 S3 server
on Diamond Stealth 64 Vision864). To check it out, try this:

1) Start X in 16bpp mode using:
        startx -- -bpp 16
2) Load a large JPEG into XV
3) Load a smaller JPEG into XV
4) During the resultant swap-frenzy (on 8MB at least) switch to a
virtual console.
5) Eventually, the X server should catch a Signal 11 and terminate.

I've tried totally conservative memory/cache settings and it doesn't
seem to make any difference. 3-1-1-1 made it even worse! :)
Interestingly, the problem also occurs in 24 bpp, but not in 8 or 32
bpp!

Bug in XFree86 S3 server or XV? Any Ideas?

Regards,
Alex.

Like others, I am having trouble with modules. I am using
version 1.3.45, with gcc 2.7.2, latest binutils, libc, etc.
All my modules compile, but I get

mod_use_count_ undefined

for every module I try to install.

Any clues???

Thanks in advance,

Chuck Campbell

Subject: Linux Demand-based SLIP
Date: 2 Dec 1995 23:08:08 GMT

Can someone please help me ?? I'm using a DIP script to dial up my IP
provider's
server to allow clients behind my firewall to access the internet.

I'm running the sockd proxy server on the firewall with IP
forwarding/gatewaying
disabled. The clients behind the firewall on the LAN are using suitably
socksified software.

The problem is this: I can get the clients (eg Netscape, ftp, telnet) running
FINE when I manually invoke the DIP script. However, being a home Linux
enthusiast, I don't have the resource to let the firewall provide a permanent
physical connection over the modem link. I would like to provide a virtual
connection "layer" that intelligently establishes physical connection on
demand.

Is it possible to workaround/kludge this somehow ?? I'm also willing to code
a decent patch if there are non already available. Would such a patch typically
provide a software interface between sockd and the kernal routing layers ??

There's at least one other bug -- it's called "IEFBR14". Why didn't they
call the program NOOP or DUMMY?

Unix command names are stupidly cryptic too, but at least they're shorter.

Has anyone modified the tulip.c carried in the 1.3.35 kernels and above,
so that it actually works?

I have already tried falling back to the de4x5.c driver. But the one
given in the 1.3.35 and later kernel source trees doesn't compile! The
bugger never finished re-writing it properly!
