"Hello World" is 80K. ldd confirms that the binaries I make are all statically linked ELF binaries. This is Not A Good Thing. Please help. Existing ELF binaries find their shared libraries just fine. Here's what my system looks like: libc 5.2.16 gcc 2.7.0 ld.so 1.7.9 binutils: This is what ld -v says: ld version cygnus/linux-2.5.2l.17 (with BFD cygnus/linux-2.5.2l.11) X11R6 (ELF) Help! I get very frequent messages to /var/adm/messages of the form hda: unexpected_intr: status=0x80 { Busy } hda: DRDY error: status=0x80 { Busy } ide0: do_ide_reset: hda: error {0x00?} My disk spins up and spins down when the messages appear, but I don't know which is cause and which is effect. These messages are correlated with a PCMCIA problem; the PCMCIA driver is under the impression that I have three sockets, and believes I'm either inserting or removing an anonymous memory card in my nonexistent third socket when this message occurs (I've asked Dave about this, and he's looking into the PCMCIA end of it). Reading the kernel, I find that when a laptop disk spins down, it typically sends an unexpected interrupt, but the Busy bit should not be set when it does so. I was wondering if anyone also saw this problem with 1.3 kernels : My hdd is a Mitsumi FX-400 CD-ROM drive, but I don't think it'd be different for any IDE CD-ROM. Anytime I try to mount it using the umask option, I get the message mount: wrong fs type or bad superblock on /dev/hdd If I don't use it, I don't have any problem at all. This seems to be happening with all 1.3.x kernels I have tested (1.3.24, 1.3.43, 1.3.44 and 1.3.45). But, it could be solved by loading the DOS CD-ROM driver before loading Linux (at least, that's what it did with 1.3.24). A long discussion about it was had on here a while ago, but I've used this ever since and have not had any problems with .43/.44/.45. Whether or not this is the actual problem, I do not know.
