Well, As I've said before, I'm using 1.2.13 and I'm having very few 
difficulties at all.  My kernel was created from linux-1.2.11.tar plus 
linux-1.2.11.elf.diff plus linux-1.2.12.patch plus linux-1.2.13.patch.

I've been using that kernel configuration for months now and I really have
no complaints whatsoever. Originally I went to elf kernel becuase I wanted
to use Postgres95 which wanted the dynamic loading ability of elf.  While
going to elf I just said, what the hell, lets go all the way and did my
kernel, xlibs, ld.so, libc, gcc, the works.  Took 3 days to get it all
d/loaded and done.  I expect upgrading to elf is better documented now so
hopefully it won't take you 3 days.  My system was initially installed
from a SlackWare distribution included on InfoMagic's linux for developers
cd set, in case you care.  I think it was versoin 2.something, came with
1.2.early kernel. I don't really recall but I don't think it realy matters
anyway.

I don't see how going to an elf kernel or to a 1.3 kernel is going to 
help you there. Sounds like you've got precious litle ram/swap available?
I'm using 16 megs of physical, and 32 megs of swap.  Next time I run the 
applet viewer on something I'll try to look and see how much it actually 
chews up.

Netscape for... linux?  No, I haven't seen that.  The only gripe I have 
so far against netscape 2.3bj for linux are:
  1) No sound.  This really annoys me since its what I want to be 
     developing right now in my applets.
  2) Source/Info pages are not easily dismissed without trashing netscape at
     the same time.  Its kinda wierd.  If I'm on page foo, and call up 
      the source window.  then delete the source window, netscape dies.  If
      however I go back to netscape and change to a different page before
      deleting the source window, netscape wil be ok.  And finally, 
      I  have to remember to go lookin' for minimized souce/info windows
      after I exit netscape 'caus sometimes they just hang around.
      This one isn't too terribly annoying, I can work around it.

Now thats not to say I haven't seen it crash, because I have.  But its
usually after I've interrupted the formatter when it bails out.  I recall
that the earlier hotjava port would do the same thing if you changed the
size of the window while it was formatting for example.
