Subject: Fall Meeting Minutes

Minutes of the December 3, 1995 meeting
				of the
			 MIT Assassins' Guild

At 2:10 we have quorum, though we still don't have pizza. Not to
worry, vast quantities appear with the Sec'y Exchequer soon thereafter.

Grandmaster's Report (Andrew Menard): The Guild is not dead.
The Vice Master (Tom Giordano) was not present, though his proxy
reported that rush had gone well and we got lots of freshmen, many of
 whom were quite cool.
The Scribe (Laura Baldwin) reported that she had tidied the office
(well, okay, she tidied some of the office and Mike Person tidied a
lot more, but she got to take credit for it because he wasn't there),
and answered a lot of mail from people who spotted our page on the
 web.
(that's http://www.mit.edu/activities/assassin/home.html)
The Secretary of the Exchequer (Dean Christakos), reports that the
guild is solvent, has received lots of money from Finboard to pay for
the many upcoming games, and has extra left over for emergencies.

The retiring Court Wizard (Dan Winship) reported on the state of our
computer system: assassin.mit.edu is up and running, and supporting
the archives. However, it's way slow (and the Scribe still can't
change any of the files, which irritates her to no end). Many other
games are to be ported there soon, though things like Jamaharet and
Star Wars need cleaning up first (hint hint). Nathan Williams is the
 new Court Wizard.

A suggestion is made by Jeremy Brown that GM teams leave the office
clean within a week of finishing their game, rather than the current
procedure of "fling things about while you find what you want and
then dump it in the middle of the floor when the game is over."
There is general consensus that this is a good idea, though the
friendly amendment that it be left in "as clean a state as it was
found in" is not promising for long-term tidiness.

Derek Hererra, nominated for Master at the last meeting, is discussed.
"Role-playing to win" is cited (as well as the non-play-to-win
Hobbes), major victories in Ankara and Siege, and being a motivating
force for the Dem Inc. games.

Derek is voted in as Master, unanimously.

Jeremy Brown and Jamie Morris are pestered into mentioning the effect
of the MIT Card on Guild members. As the Guild has a high and active
population of both alumni and non-students, and many of our
activities take place after 6pm and on weekends, the proliferation of
locked doors is inconvenient. Jamie is investigating the possibility
of an alumni card, and there are indications that a written letter
from a faculty member requesting a card can be also be made. The
Scribe is attempting to contact Dean Eisenmann, our faculty advisor,
to see if this could be done.
People wanting more information on this should investigate:
  http://web.mit.edu/asa/www/mit-card.html
or the mailing list
  friendly-cards@mit, archived to discuss in
  jhereg.mit.edu:/usr/spool/discuss/cards Friendly-cards, cards-mtg.

In a new record, the meeting is over in under two hours.
