I had a similar problem with netscape-2b1 when displaying on an NCD
x-terminal from a 2.0.5-R system.  In my case there were things in the font
path that made netscape unhappy.  Things worked fine with my xfree86 machine
at home, so if that's what you're running it may not necessarily be font
related.
