Yeah, well, the netbsd stuff  uses a lot of the stuff from the Linux
sound driver so even if we went with the NetBSD stuff we would not be walking
away from the linux stuff. I find myself with every new card spending a lot
of time on the lower layer of the sound driver. So from my perspective , 
I want to be involved with the sound driver developers who do work 
at the lower layer cause is a real royal pain bringing in a new sound card.


I have mentioned in the past that is very important to remain  ioctl 
compatible with the linux apps and I am not sure if the NetBSD stuff's ioctl 
layer
is compatible with the Linux sound driver.

Also, before considering switching sound drivers we should considered who
in the group is at least considering to stick around and support the sound 
driver for an extended period of time.

Last but not least I am really surprised at Jordan for even suggesting 
integrating the current alpha sound driver into the CVS tree. 
I have tried to make it clear that the current alpha sound driver is
intended for sound driver hackers --- that means that is not ready for
general distribution.

As for 2.1-current, Julian is more than happy to assist the group to 
integrate the current alpha sound driver with his /devfs stuff.
