This points up how important it is for parents to know what is being taught to their children. Assuming that educators will act in a reasonable manner is a sure formula for disaster. We need to know - not assume. Children are not allowed to buy pornographic materials in stores, nor are they allowed to go to X-rated movies, because such things have been determined to be harmful to their development. Now we are told they learn and see these things in their schools. Any person with the brains God gave a flea knows that small children are not capable of handling the type of information they are teaching. It is a form of sexual, as well as physical, abuse, and those persons guilty of advocating this type of "education" should be brought up on charges. From under what rock did these so-called "educators" crawl? Obviously, it is past time for parents to reclaim the rights and responsibilities of educating their children from such irresponsible, amoral frauds. DonnaLee Wheeler Farmington, N.M. Instead of amoral, secular, humanistic sex education and condom distribution, families, churches, learning institutions, social organizations and the business community must reemphasize the learning and practice of virtues such as courtesy, honesty, decency, moral courage, justice, self-respect and the Golden Rule. When young people develop nobility of mind, spirit and character, they will understand how to conduct themselves not only in the sexual realm but in all other important areas of life. Clearly, we need to teach young people to behave as good human beings and let them know they possess the God-given ability to develop purity of heart, mind and soul.
