There has been confusion over Bill Clinton's position on the North American Free Trade Agreement with Mexico and Canada. This colloquy, from an October interview with Larry King, should help clear things up: Clinton: "While I said the agreement itself was okay, I don't think Congress should approve the agreement . . . until we do more, much more to protect the American people." King: "Well, what does that mean? Are you for it or not for it?" Clinton: "It means that I'm okay on the agreement, but there need to be some other agreements." King: "Then, you're against it, as it stands?" Clinton: "I am against letting it go through until we get some other agreements. But I'm for it. I don't think we need to reopen it. . . . We need to have some parallel agreements." King: "But if that 'until' doesn't happen, you wouldn't be for it?"
