New episodes of "The Simpsons" and "Herman's Head" air at 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on KTTV-TV Channel 11 and XETV-TV Channel 6, along with reruns of "Martin" (8:30 p.m.) and "In Living Color" (9 p.m.). KTLA-TV Channel 5 and KCOP-TV Channel 13 are opting for movies as counterprogramming. KTLA is airing "Back to the Future" from 7:30-10 p.m., while KCOP has "Police Academy" from 8-10 p.m. Each will then deal with election results on its 10 p.m. newscast. Highlights include pompous anchorman Ted Baxter's (Ted Knight) bid for a Minneapolis City Council seat on the "Mary Tyler Moore" show (8:30 p.m.), another "Mary Tyler Moore" episode in which an election-night snowstorm knocks out the telephone lines and WJM's children's show host, Chuckles the Clown, ends up announcing the winner of the city's mayoral race (11 p.m.), and a two-part episode of "The Dick Van Dyke Show" in which Rob (Van Dyke) runs for city council in New Rochelle, N.Y.
