It was not the highest price paid for a Warhol work--his "Red Shot Marilyn" brought $4 million in 1989. Another 77 works of contemporary art, estimated at $26 million to $33 million, were up for sale, and 51 sold for a total of $23.4 million. The 1984 neon work "One Hundred Live and Die" by Bruce Nauman, expected to sell for up to $800,000, sold for $1.9 million. An untitled piece from 1956 by Cy Twombly went for $2.1 million. David Hockney's portrait of two friends, "Henry Geldzahler and Christopher Scott" from 1968-1969, went for $1.1 million.
