The last contact with Plant, 41, of Jamestown, R.I., was believed to have been a beacon signal picked up Oct. 27 by the Canadian Coast Guard. It was too weak to pinpoint. Plant, who has made three solo trips around the world, set out Oct. 16 from New York to Les Sables d'Olonne in France in a 60-foot sloop.
