Under Chapter 11 of the federal bankruptcy code, a company is protected from claims by creditors while it attempts to reorgan- ize its finances under a plan approved by the court. In a Chapter 7 liquidation, a court trustee sells assets to pay creditors' claims. The company then ceases operations. District of Columbia< Anne Butler & Associates Inc. of 1507 19th St. SE, filed for Chapter 11 reorganization Nov. 2. The real estate development, general brokerage, management and consultant business listed as- sets as $3,556,497 and liabilities as $1,736,011. Maryland District Rockville Court< D&S Paving Inc. of 19550 Montgomery Village Ave., Gaithersburg, filed for Chapter 11 reorganization Oct. 30. The asphalt and pav- ing company, which specializes in golf course cart paths, listed assets as $239,550 and liabilities as $365,413. Channel 68 Broadcasting Co., also known as WJAL-TV 68, of 111 South Potomac St., Hagerstown, was the subject of an involuntary Chapter 7 liquidation filed Oct. 29. The following firms alleged claims against the television station: General Recreation Inc. of Hagerstown, with a claim of $198,000; Fire-X Sales and Service Corp. of Hagerstown, with a claim of $287; and Vanguard Cellular Systems Inc. of Greensboro, N.C., with a claim of $5,202. Greenbelt Court Limited Partnership, c/o E. Lee Meadows, 1831 Forest Dr., Annapolis, was the subject of an involuntary Chapter 11 reorganization filed Oct. 29. Second National Federal Savings Bank of Annapolis was the sole petitioner with a claim of $4,244,848 against the real estate business. Eastern Virginia District Alexandria Division< Technical Engineering & Applications Management Inc. of 5205 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, filed for Chapter 11 reorganization Nov. 4. The computer hardware and software maintenance company listed assets as $17,138 and liabilities as $95,868. Carl Bernstein & Associates Inc. of 7345 McWhorter Place, Annan- dale, filed for Chapter 7 liquidation Nov. 3. The construction and general contracting company listed assets as zero and liabil- ities as $835,417. Burke, Brockett & Rice Partnership of 6279 Franconia Rd., Alex- andria, filed for Chapter 7 liquidation Nov. 2. The real estate investment partnership listed assets as $250,097 and liabilities as $1,134,289.
