CBS says it has picked up the show for next season; NBC says differently. "We have a deal for next fall," says CBS spokeswoman Susan Tick. "It's set." CBS' purchase is for either six two-hour TV movies or for a series, to be determined later this season. FOX TRIES TO ZAP OLYMPICS: The success of Fox's "In Living Color" Super Bowl "zap party" proved that viewers would switch channels during a big event. Fox that also holds true for "Fox Summer Games," a counterprogramming stunt this week to CBS' Winter Olympics. Fox will air summer-themed shows this week, including a "Simpsons" baseball episode and volleyball and swimming on Saturday. FOX TO ADD TWO REALITY SERIES: More reality-based programming is just around the corner. In April, Fox premieres two new half-hour series. "Code Three" will follow paramedics in the style adopted by Fox's "Cops." "Sightings" will cover phenomena such as life after death, psychic healing and the Loch Ness monster. OLYMPICS DRAWING VIEWERS: Ratings have been up for the Winter Olympics. With an overnight rating of 20.0 Saturday, CBS' seven-day overall rating should at least equal ABC's 18.7 for Calgary in 1988. CBS only guaranteed advertisers a 17 rating. EARNINGS DOWN AT GREY: Grey Advertising Inc. Friday reported 1991 billings of $3.5 billion compared to $3.2 billion for 1990. Commissions increased to $531 million from $481 million. Because of one-time restructuring charges, the company's net income for 1991 was $4.307 million compared to $14.5 million in 1990. Without the restructuring charge, net income would have been $15.278 million, the firm says. PARENTING NAMED HOTTEST MAG: For the second year in a row, ADWEEK named Parenting as the hottest magazine of the year. It raised its rate base for a fifth consecutive year (to 800,000 this month) and closed ground in ad pages on the long-established Parents. The challenge ahead for Parenting is staving off family-minded competitors who want to regain advertisers, ADWEEK says. COKE TO SPONSOR ATLANTA GAMES: ISL Marketing AG, the Switzerland headquartered marketing agent for the International Olympic Committee's worldwide sponsorship program, has signed the first sponsorship agreement covering the 1994 and 1996 Olympic Games with Coca-Cola Co. The agreement provides Coca-Cola with global marketing rights for both the 1994 Winter Games in Norway and the 1996 Summer Games Atlanta. PARAMOUNT SHOWS SELL WELL: "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "The Untouchables," Paramount Television Group's newly announced series, have been sold in eight of the top 10 markets, according to Steve Goldman, president, Paramount Domestic Television. "The Untouchables" has been sold in 44% of the country, and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" in 48% of the country. Both will debut in January 1993. BONZ, SHOPPING CLUB MAKE DEAL: The Home Shopping Club and BONZ, a division of Ralston Purina, have united in a marketing campaign. The partnership involves placing Home Shopping Club coupons worth $10 on back panels of about two million packages of BONZ distributed nationwide. The coupons entitle shoppers to save $10 on Home Shopping Club purchases. STAR SPINOFF PLANNED: A spinoff of the Star is set to debut in March. The Enquirer:Star Group will begin the tabloid What People Are Wearing as a quarterly publication with a newsstand-only rate base of 750,000, Advertising Age reports. It's expected to go monthly next year. AD SPENDING MAY GO UP: DeWitt Media says half the advertisers its surveyed say they plan to increase ad spending this year. The nationwide survey of more than 100 advertisers found 52% will increase spending, 23% plan to maintain current levels and 25% plan cuts. SIZZLER MOVES ACCOUNT: Dailey & Associates has won the $28 million Sizzler International account, says Sizzler. The deal is effective May 1.
