Television ads for the Dodge Intrepid, Chrysler Concorde and Eagle Vision won't begin until November. But the LH line, Chrysler's first new line in more than 10 years, is on the air now as part of a corporate campaign. Chrysler will spend $200 million over the model year on LH ads. ADS ILLUSTRATE TEAMWORK: In Chrysler's ads for its new LH line, computerized images of designers and engineers are merged into one another to illustrate the company's team approach to creating the automobiles. The ads, created by agency Bozell, will emphasize the platform team concept. On Monday night, Chrysler brought out its heavy artillery to tout LH: Lee Iaccoca hit the airwaves in his final ad appearance. NETWORK HIGHLIGHTS CLASSIFIEDS: Beginning Sept. 25, Vehicle Information Network will introduce what it describes as "The Nation's Local Electronic classifieds" for used cars in the New York, Cleveland and Los Angeles-San Diego markets. The network plans to directly compete with newspaper classified ads. Users call a toll-free number and then receive a fax listing cars of the make and model of their choice. NBC EARNS RATINGS RAVES: NBC earned the weekend ratings raves: The 6.5 overnight rating for Saturday's Michigan-Notre dame game was 48% higher than the 4.4 for NBC's Notre Dame opener against Indiana last year. It beat the 4.7 for CBS' U.S. Open tennis and 4.4 for ABC's late-afternoon college games. Each rating point equals 921,000 households. NBC DOUBLEHEADER JUMPS: NBC's 16.5 overnight rating for Sunday's Buffalo Bills-San Francisco 49ers doubleheader game was an 18% boost from last year. While both NFL pregame shows had increases, CBS' NFL Today swamped NBC's NFL Live, 6.8 to 3.8. NBC fared best among the networks' sporting shares throughout the weekend. DISTRIBUTOR LOOKS FOR AGENCY: A distributor for a Canadian sparkling water is shopping agencies to help the product make a U.S. splash, according to Adweek. Norman Mazvinsky, general manager of New Wave Beverages, the distributor of McCulloch's Sparkling Canadian Water Beverage in the U.S., says he is looking for an agency to help with a national rollout. SERVICE ALLOWS EASY PURCHASE: A new service called the Newspaper Space Bank will soon enable advertisers and agencies to purchase remnant newspaper ad space via computer. The new service, which will be available in October by Media Space and AD:SAT, a satellite ad transmission service for newspapers, will list remnant ad space at discounts of 40% to 60%. FRITO-LAY SWITCHES AGENCIES: Frito-Lay has moved its spot TV and radio network radio buying from BBDO Worldwide, New York, from Tracy-Locke, Dallas after a review, Advertising Age reported. Last year, Frito-Lay spent nearly $25 million on spot TV and spot and network radio. The marketer also consolidated national TV buying at Foote, Cone & Belding, New York. REVLON PICKS GREENBERG: The Greenberg Partnership will pick up Revlon's national buying assignment, including network, cable and syndication. Revlon's national assignment was previously handled by Young & Rubicam. Revlon spent more than $23 millin on spot and about $8 million on network, cable and syndication TV in 1991, according to LNA: Arbitron Multi-Media Service. KETCHUM TO HANDLE ACURA: Ketchum Advertising, Los Angeles, will handle Honda's Acura division's $40 million regional dealer business. Acura's 1992 to-date sales have fallen 14%. Acura's account is estimated at $125 million. About two dozen shops now handle the 34 regional associates. AGENCY FACES TROUBLE: Wells Rich Greene BDDP, Los Angeles, is in danger of losing its $30 million MGM:UA account after the dismal box office performance of "Diggstown", according to Adweek. Agency executives say a review may be around the corner at the client, which has retained the agency for eight years. The studio is the agency's top account. HEINZ UNLEASHES NEW FRIES: A multimedia ad campaign from DDB Needham Worldwide, New York, will push H.J. Heinz Co's Ore-Ida Foods' new line of frozen potatoes. Fast Fries, designed to compete with fast-food french fries, will come out nationally in mid-October. DDB Needham's campaign will kickoff in January. PAPER LAUNCHES TEEN SECTION: On Sept. 3, The Times of Shreveport, La., launched "Teen Times," a monthly tabloid section written exclusively by teens, for teens. The objective in creating "Teen Times," which is geared toward 12 to 19 year-olds, is to increase young readership and offer a new advertising vehicle to its customers.
