The 1992 Study of Media Markets reported that readers of The New York Times Magazine had median household income of $65,196, higher than any other consumer publication in the nation. SIMMONS RELEASES STUDY: The Simmons Market Research Bureau released its 1992 Study of Media Markets Wednesday. Magazines and the household incomes they represent: Forbes, $63,342; Architectural Digest, $58,690; Fortune, $58,411; Business Week, $57,794; the New Yorker, $54,702; New York, $52,011; and Vanity Fair, $43,086. The New York Times Magazine was tops at $65,196. SIERRA REACHES RESOLUTION: Sierra On-Line Inc., Virgin Games Inc. and Westwood Studios Inc. said Wednesday they have reached a resolution over a disagreement related to Virgin's use of Sierra's King's Quest mark. Sierra objected to Virgin and Westwood's use of its King's Quest mark in advertisements and packaging for their own product. Virgin and Westwood will include a disclaimer in three future advertisements. GE AD CELEBRATES NIGHT GAMES: A new GE commercial celebrating the 100th anniversary of the first night football game makes its national television debut Sept. 28, during the second quarter of ABC's "Monday Night Football" broadcast. The commercial commemorates the first night game which was played Sept. 28, 1892, on a crudely lit field in Mansfield, Pa. BBDO HANDLES FOOTBALL AD: Advertising agency BBDO has produced a new commercial for GE which will premiere during ABC's "Monday Night Football" on Sept. 28. The commercial, which commemorates GE's lighting of the first night football game - in 1892, was directed by the award-winning Joe Pytka. The filming required several hundred actors and extras, intricate nighttime shooting and re-creation of football settings. CAMARO WILL PACE INDY 500: Chevrolet's next-generation 1993 Camaro Z28 coupe has been named Official Pace Car for the 77th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 30, 1993. Chevrolet returns as the "500" pace car for a record ninth time, and Camaro for a record fourth. Chevrolet will unveil the actual 1993 Camaro Z28 Pace Car at the Indianapolis Auto Show in late December. OUTDOOR SALES DIVERSIFY: According to the Outdoor Advertising Association of America, the emergence of more quantifiable measuring yardsticks in research is slowly leading to a greater acceptance among media directors of the outdoor medium. The main reason for increase in diversity among users: Use of new media by tobacco and liquor makers has led to a dip in their outdoor spending. NEWSPAPER CREATES NEW PROGRAM: "Ad Makeover," a program created by the Poughkeepsie (N.Y.) Journal is aimed at enhancing the quality of the Journal's retail ads. To achieve this, every month the newspaper's outside account executives schedule a half-day to meet with the Journal's creative developer for support, guidance and to exchange ideas regarding incoming creative. BUENA VISTA PUSHES VIDEO: Walt Disney Co.'s Buena Vista Home Video has lined up a record-setting $65 million holiday promotion for "Beauty & the Beast," according to Advertising Age. The "Beauty" effort will push overall holiday spending on pre-recorded tapes to more than $200 million, blanketing television with ads. GOOD GUYS PICKS RINEY: Hal Riney & Partners has been named by Good Guys, a chain of 40 electronics superstores, to handle a $10 million broadcast campaign. Admarketing had previously handled Good Guys account. The account brings to more than $50 million the amount of new business won by Riney offices in the past month. WEIGHT WATCHERS SHIFTS ATTACK: Weight Watchers International is trying to separate itself from the weight-loss marketing pack with a $5 million fall marketing strategy that stresses the value of its counseling service. Adweek reports that the "Incredible Deal" TV campaign, which runs nationwide through Oct. 5, emphasizes a half-price offer and free registration. ADS FOR COMICS PICK UP: Marvel Entertainment Group says ad sales for their fall line of comic books include ads for video-games, board games, candy, food and cereal. In Marvel's biggest ad deal ever, the publisher's titles targeting readers age 11 to 17 next month will carry ads for TRS' Dragon Quest game.
