NO UPSETS TO OPEN WIMBLEDON:
   The 106th Wimbledon opened with no rain and no upsets Monday. 
World No. 1s Jim Courier and Monica Seles, defending champion 
Michael Stich, No. 2 Stefan Edberg and No. 4 Boris Becker advanced 
without losing a set. But Jimmy Connors, playing in his 20th 
Wimbledon, lost to Mexico's Luis Herrera 6-2, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. 
Weather reports call for "more sunny spells" Tuesday.
    
BARNES CAN COMPETE:
   Randy Barnes, the world recordholder in the shot put serving a 
two-year drug ban, was ordered into the U.S. Olympic Track and 
Field Trials by a West Virginia state court judge Monday. The U.S. 
federation (TAC) will oppose the decision. In qualifying action, 
PattiSue Plumer edged Shelly Steely to win the 3,000 meters and 
Kamy Keshmiri won the discus competition.
    
WASHINGTON SUES TYSON:
   Desiree Washington, the woman Mike Tyson was convicted of 
raping, filed a civil suit against him Monday, seeking unspecified 
damages for assault, battery, false imprisonment and intentional 
and negligent infliction of emotional distress. Also, a prisoner 
advocacy group asked for his release on "shock probation" because 
prison employees are exploiting and profiting from Tyson.
