Faldo's final-round, 2-over-par 73 gave him a 12-under 272 to edge John Cook by a shot at historic Muirfield. The victory, combined with Fred Couples missing the cut, moved Faldo back to No. 1 in the worldwide Sony rankings. WALTRIP TAKES MILLER 500: Darrell Waltrip won Sunday's Miller 500 stock-car race at Pocono International Raceway in Long Pond, Pa., despite a violent accident with Davey Allison. Allison was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pa. He suffered a broken right forearm and had a possible fractures of the left eye socket and right hand, according to track physician Ed Spoll. He was listed in stable condition. LEMOND DROPS OUT OF TOUR: Greg LeMond, who has struggled more in this Tour de France than any other race, dropped out Sunday as Andy Hampsten began his ride to victory in the 116 mile stage through the French Alps. Spain's Miguel Indurain was sixth, 3:15 behind, but still kept the leader's yellow jersey. Indurain, last year's Tour winner, leads Italy's Claudio Chiappucci by 1:42. Hampsten moved to third, 8:01 behind. NFL OWNERS TO MEET: NFL owners begin a two-day meeting on labor relations Monday in Dallas keyed by a report on the Minneapolis free-agency suit from attorney Frank Rothman. The case is in recess until July 27. To settle the case, the players want free agency after five years, dropping to four years at the end of a new labor agreement. Some owners favor a five-year plan.
