POWELL HAS LONGEST JUMP EVER:
   Mike Powell recorded the longest jump in history Tuesday, but 
didn't collect a world record or a $200,000 Ferrari. Powell, who 
set a long jump world record of 29 feet, 4 1:2 inches last year, 
jumped 29-6 in an international meet in Sestriere, Italy. A tail 
wind of about 8 1:2 mph nullified the world record and prevented 
Powell from collecting the bonus, the Ferrari.
    
DREAM TEAM PUTS ON A SHOW:
   The Dream Team played its first game on foreign soil Tuesday 
and, after a slow start, defeated the French national team 111-71 
in an exhibition at Stade Louis II in Monte Carlo. Because the 
French team failed to qualify for the Olympics, the game served as 
a showcase for the U.S. basketball stars. Prince Rainier and 
Prince Albert of Monaco were among the capacity crowd of 3,500.
    
BEARS WEIGHTING ON PERRY:
   Defensive tackle William "Refrigerator" Perry wants the Chicago 
Bears to sign him sight unseen, taking his word he's at coach Mike 
Ditka's mandated 320-pound weight limit. He's to be at 320 by 7 
p.m. CT Thursday at training camp. The Bears haven't seen Perry 
since January. However, he's unsigned and isn't expected to 
report. Perry's weight has ranged from 310-390 in seven seasons.
    
INDURAIN STILL LEADS TOUR:
   Ireland's Stephen Roche was the first to reach La Bourboule, 
France, to win Tuesday's 132-mile stage of the Tour de France in 5 
hours, 52 minutes and 14 seconds. Viatcheslav Ekimov of the 
Commonwealth of Independent States was second. Spain's Miguel 
Indurain is the overall leader, 1:42 ahead of Italy's Claudio 
Chiappucci. Andy Hampsten of the USA is third, 8:07 behind.
