Mike Barrowman broke his own record in the 200-meter breaststroke (2 minutes, 10.16 seconds). The men's 400-freestyle relay added a gold. Anita Nall took a silver in the 100 breaststroke and Crissy Ahmann-Leighton won a silver in the 100 butterfly. UNIFIED TEAM TAKES MEDAL LEAD: Despite Team USA's success in the pool Wednesday, the Unified Team caught the USA in the medals race, totaling 26 (15 gold). The USA has 21 (seven gold), followed by China (17, 6 gold). Also on Wednesday, Magic Johnson sat out as the men's basketball team beat Germany 111-68; the U.S. baseball team blew a lead 5-0, losing 9-6 to Cuba; and the USA was eliminated in soccer, finishing at 1-1-1. SWIMMERS BACK IN POOL: The USA should zoom into high gear in swimming Thursday. Tom Jager and Matt Biondi are favored to finish first and second in the 50 freestyle; defending champion Janet Evans is favored in the 800 free and world record-holder Jeff Rouse goes in the 100 backstroke. Also on tap: The women's gymnastics all-around finals begin; the women's basketball team begins its drive for a third straight gold. CAMPS OPEN TO HOLDOUTS: National Football League veterans and rookies alike are holding out this summer, for big numbers. Buffalo Bills general manager Bill Polian says some agents are telling him their veteran clients are out because they expect to win free agency in the Minneapolis trial.
