COLTS' GEORGE INJURED:
   Quarterback Jeff George's thumb injury left Indianapolis Colts 
general manager Jim Irsay scrambling Sunday. George is expected to 
miss a month after straining ligaments in his right thumb in 
Saturday night's 20-0 loss at Cincinnati. That would keep him out 
of the first four regular-season games. The Colts are idle in Week 
4. Backup quarterback Jack Trudeau is unsigned.
    
LITTLE LEAGUE SERIES BEGINS:
   Play begins Monday at the 46th annual Little League World 
Series, with teams from five countries and four continents in 
Williamsport, Pa., for the round-robin tournament. Representing 
the four U.S. regions are Long Beach, Calif. (USA West), 
Nottingham of Hamilton Square, N.J. (USA East), South Lake 
Charles, La. (USA South) and South Holland, Ill. (USA Central).
    
FAXON WINS INTERNATIONAL:
   With his victory Sunday at the International, Brad Faxon has 
won twice and lost a playoff in the last five weeks, and soared to 
sixth on the PGA Tour money list with $739,093. Faxon shot a 
6-under-par 66, worth 14 points in the modified Stableford 
scoring. Kris Tschetter won the LPGA Northgate Computer Classic 
title and Mike Joyce won the GTE Northwest Classic Senior Tour 
event.
