The eighth-year quarterback, unbeknownst to him, broke his right ankle early in the Browns' 27-23 loss to the Miami Dolphins Monday night. The Browns apparently will turn to third-year pro Todd Philcox, who did not play in the first two games. MARINOVICH REPLACES SCHROEDER: Quarterback Jay Schroeder, coming off his best passing game with the Los Angeles Raiders (0-2), will be benched in favor of Todd Marinovich, according to reports. The South Bay Daily Breeze (Torrance, Calif.) reported Tuesday that an unnamed Raiders staff member confirmed the decision to start Marinovich had been made, and Schroeder had been told by coach Art Shell. PISTONS MAKE BID FOR MILLS: The Detroit Pistons continued their roster shake-up Tuesday, signing Terry Mills to an offer sheet. Mills, a former Michigan star, is a restricted free agent with New Jersey, so the Nets have 15 days to match the Pistons' offer, reported to be $10 million over five years. Willis Reed, Nets' vice president of basketball operations, has said the club would match any offer to Mills. $$%2 This article is copyright 1992 Gannett News Service.
