United States Swimming's board of directors Wednesday unanimously approved a plan to award prize money at major international competitions - beginning with the 1994 World Championships in Rome and the '96 Summer Olympics. The purse ranges from $600,000-$800,000. RIDDOCH FIRED BY PADRES: San Diego general manager Joe McIlvaine fired manager Greg Riddoch Wednesday. The Padres replaced Riddoch with Jim Riggleman, manager at Class AAA Las Vegas. Riggleman has a contract for the rest of the season, 1993 and a club option for '94. Riddoch replaced Jack McKeon as manager July 11, 1990. Under Riddoch, the Padres were 38-44 in 1990, 84-78 last year and 78-72 this season. FEMALE GOALIE MAKES DEBUT: Goaltender Manon Rheaume is in a league of her own after giving up two goals in 20 minutes in the Tampa Bay Lightning's 6-4 loss to the St. Louis Blues in a National Hockey League exhibition Wednesday. Rheaume, 20, is the first woman to play a game in one of the four major team sports. She had seven saves in the first period. She gave up goals to Jeff Brown and Brendan Shanahan. MEMPHIS STATE PLAYERS RETURN: A boycott by Memphis State football players seeking coach Chuck Stobart's removal ended when they resumed practice after meeting with school officials. Tuesday, 84 players walked out of practice to express displeasure with the fourth-year coach. Wednesday, 100 of 104 worked out after a meeting with Stobart, school President V.
