Raiders 7 SPORTS SHORTS: NOT ALL IS DECIDED FOR BASEBALL: Little is left to be decided in the standings, but plenty can happen the final week of baseball's regular season. Getting much attention is George Brett's pursuit of 3,000 hits. The Kansas City star, who didn't start Monday, needs four to reach a record matched by only 17 others. Detroit's Cecil Fielder, with 123 RBI, can become the first to lead the majors in RBI three seasons in a row. DODGERS, RED SOX FALL TO CELLAR: Gary Sheffield of San Diego is gunning for the first National League Triple Crown since 1937, but it won't be easy. He leads in batting average (.330), is one behind Fred McGriff in home runs (33) but trails RBI leader Darren Daulton by eight (99). The Los Angeles Dodgers will finish last for the first time since 1905. And the Red Sox will likely finish last for the first time in 60 years. BODINE WINS DELAYED GOODY'S: Davey Allison missed a golden opportunity to jump back into the thick of the Winston Cup championship race when he finished 16th in Monday's rain-delayed Goody's 500 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, won by Geoff Bodine. Points leader Bill Elliott lasted only 160 of the 500 laps before engine trouble ended his day in 30th place. $$%2 This article is copyright 1992 Gannett News Service.
