SPORTS SHORTS BLACKHAWKS TAKE 3-0 LEAD: The Chicago Blackhawks took a 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven Campbell Conference final on Jeremy Roenick's overtime goal Wednesday to down the Edmonton Oilers 4-3. It was the Blackhawks' record 10th straight playoff win, tying the NHL single-season playoff mark. Ed Belfour made 21 saves for Chicago, which can sweep the series with a win at Edmonton Friday. NEW COACHES IN NBA: Rudy Tomjanovich was named coach of the Houston Rockets and Dan Issel was given the coaching job by the Denver Nuggets Wednesday. Tomjanovich goes from Houston Rockets interim coach to signing a three-year deal. The Denver Nuggets would not disclose the length of Issel's contract. Also, Ron Rothstein is expected to be named coach of the Detroit Pistons Thursday. PENN STATE MAKES BOWL DEAL: Penn State Wednesday agreed to play in this year's Blockbuster Bowl college football game. Penn State was left out of the newly formed bowl alliance - involving the Orange, Sugar, Cotton and Fiesta - because of its new membership in the Big 10.
