LEMIEUX SCORES WINNING GOAL:
   Mario Lemieux scored a power-play goal on a rebound with 13 
seconds remaining to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 
come-from-behind 5-4 victory against the Chicago Blackhawks in 
Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final. Defenseman Chris Chelios had a 
goal and two assists to give the Blackhawks a 3-0 first-period 
lead. Game 2 is Thursday in Pittsburgh.
    
PORTLAND WINS IN OT:
   The Portland Trail Blazers took a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven 
NBA Western Conference final with a 127-121 overtime win Tuesday. 
Game 6 is Thursday night in Salt Lake City, where the Jazz are 
undefeated (8-0) in this season's playoffs. A 10-3 Blazers run in 
overtime put the game away for Portland, who got 29 points from 
Jerome Kersey and 24 from Clyde Drexler.
    
SELES WINS OPENING MATCH:
   Two-time defending French Open champion Monica Seles took the 
first step toward another title Tuesday with a 6-1, 6-0 win over 
Catherine Mothes in her first match. Also, top men's seeds No. 2 
Stefan Edberg, No. 3 Pete Sampras, No. 10 Ivan Lendl and No. 11 
Andre Agassi were winners.
