BRIAN JORDAN CHOOSES BASEBALL:
   Brian Jordan agreed to a three-year contract with the St. Louis 
Cardinals Tuesday, choosing not to continue his career as a 
professional football player with the Atlanta Falcons. He picked 
baseball because he says it offers career longevity, a better 
health plan and a more productive union. He said the Falcons 
weren't aggressive in trying to keep him.
    
FANS HONOR BULLS:
   An estimated 150,000 fans turned out Tuesday to honor the 
two-time NBA champion Chicago Bulls in a noontime lakefront 
celebration. There was a large police presence in the area to 
prevent the type of violence that erupted Sunday night and 
resulted in more than 1,000 arrests. Bulls forward Scottie Pippen 
already had fans thinking about next season: "Let's go for a 
three-peat."
    
TAGLIABUE SEES VICTORY:
   NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue said it is clear the league 
will win an antitrust trial after hearing opening arguments 
Tuesday. NFL players argued that free agency is the American way, 
but the league said it would destroy competitive balance.
    
MESSIER NAMED MVP:
   New York Rangers center Mark Messier was named the NHL's most 
valuable player Tuesday. Messier received 67 of 69 first-place 
votes. Among other winners: Montreal Canadiens goaltender Patrick 
Roy, who won his third Vezina Trophy; Canadiens center Guy 
Carbonneau who won his third Selke Trophy as top defensive center 
and Vancouver's Pavel Bure was named rookie of the year.
